Christmas Memey-Thing Yoinked from cristullmonster

December 8th, 2006 (01:45 pm)

1. Eggnog or Hot Chocolate? Ooh, ooh...um..."Promised Land"EggNog
with spiced rum and added nutmeg and cinnamon sprinkeled on top? Though a
steamy mug of cocoa with a shot of good peppermint schnapps and a candy cane
is a close second!

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Family and Friends
prezzies are wrapped and under the tree--Santa arranges his gifts open and ready
to play with!

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? White lights. I just LOVE white fairy lights
dripping all over!

4. Do you hang mistletoe? Yes! A bit disappointed in our crop this year, Austin hasn't
gotten enough rain for the berries to really come out. But yes, plenty of local mistletoe!

5. When do you put your decorations up? Heh. When do I take them down?

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? My family started a Tradition
of Snow Crab and shrimp and new potatoes with corn on the cob--about ten years ago.
Mom was complaining about turkey AGAIN, and we all just kinda looked at each
other and decided we'd have what we darn well pleased for Christmas Dinner! The
result is an easy boiling pot, quick clean up and a wonderful messy meal with buttery
fingers and much laughter.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? We have a verrry old Nativity set, I can't even
remember where it came from or if it is older than I am. Mom always put it down where
we could play with it and move the shepards and animals around...and take the little
baby Jesus out of the manger. I decided one year that if baby Jesus was missing...then
mom wouldn't be able to put the decorations away after Christmas.

The baby was eventually found, and the decorations packed away--but ever after we
have played "Find Baby Jesus" before taking down the tree. ^_^

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? Whatever do you mean?!

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Yes! Each person gets to open ONE on
Christmas Eve.....after much begging. ('Tis never assumed!)

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? I change it up every year...this year
there will be a SUPER tree, draped with all the loverly COMICBOOK HERO glass
balls that hrm_ok got me for my Birthday!

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? LOVE IT--though it is rare in the Hill Country of Texas.

12. Can you ice skate? I am a total BAD-ASS. Oooh...Must drag Benjamin Ice Skating!

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Santa got us a trip to Amsterdam this year...^_^

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you? FAMILY.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Divinity--though I have never successfully
made it myself...perhaps I should give it another shot this year?

16. What tops your tree? Hrm...maybe I can find a WW tiara this year!

17. Which do you prefer giving or receiving? Nothing beats the look on someone's face
when you have found juuuuuuuust the right thing.

18. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Slap that "Charlie Brown Christmas" DVD
on and let it PLAY!

19. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? Those big billy-club sized ones that are chalky... most
fun when you are small and allowed to take a hammer to 'em!

Oh!! When are you going?

We have many, many suggestions to offer beginning with you must stay at the 7 bridges hotel..... http://www.sevenbridgeshotel.nl/

I love this part of the internet......a zillion G readers will now know the best place to stay.

We can revist the Van Gogh suggestions "offline".

Seriously, this is excellent. When are you going?

Re: Santa got us a trip to Amsterdam this year...^_^

We had planned to go for Christmas, the 23-30th...
but Benjamin's promotion interfered. *sigh*

January is what we are shooting for now.

He goes often, he is quite familiar with the City...
but of course any suggestions are more than welcome!

I'm very excited about going back to Europe!!!

Re: Santa got us a trip to Amsterdam this year...^_^

Lucky girl!

For your consideration-
2 days to visit the Museum Plein (Van Gogh Museum (no Starry Night BTW-that's at the MOMA in NYC but you'll cheat yourself if you plan less an afternoon here), Rijksmuseum, Rembrandt's House (a museuem worth the visit), and the Anne Frank museum.

Should you plan a day trip consider The Hague, where the World Court is and a most diplomatic city. Additionally though the Maurishuis is well worth the visit if you have any interest in Dutch art.

Ancillary advice- a) whatever airline you fly be sure to register for their frequent flyer program as you'll rack up a stack of miles (I recommend United if for no other reason than the free drinks on internation flights!!) though perhaps loyalty to dad's airline can be equally rewarding.

Meantime-take care of yourself extra special because those refreshments will undoubtedly knock your socks off.

destination ruminations

If you can afford to go to Amsterdam this year, you could surely start saving for a trip to Australia next! The guest room will be finished! You could post from my computer

Cowgirl G

Oh BELIEVE ME--I started my begging early!!!

That is exactly where I would love to go next.
If we keep putting our pennies in the "tea-pot" I am quite
hopeful that next year we will be able to come!

I would just adore meeting you and your family, and of course
Australia is simply one of the places I have dreamed of being
able to visit MY WHOLE LIFE.

That would be an AMAZING trip! Thank-you so much for
inviting us!!!

One of the books that I sat and read with Frank and Maria's
youngest--over Thanksgiving--was a picture book of Australia
that you had given them...
we ooohed and ahhhed at the water and beaches. There were
even a few post-it notes stuck in there pointing out where you
lived! Me and the girls decided then that we must must must come
visit 'Aunt Deynne'!
