The Fourth Annual Whisky Festival...

December 8th, 2006 (01:50 am)

Was about as painless as I could possibly have imagined.

A FULLY Festive party, with proceeds going to MEALS ON WHEELS!

The tickets were 45$ and you got a card and a nice big rounded whiskey tasting glass...
One wandered around with said card and could get a half ounce of well over 45 truly
loverly Scotch Whiskys while being served Hor D'oeuvres from folks like myself
wandering about with silver trays.

Quite a deal, if you ask me--and folks turned out in droves to take advantage of the now
popular annual event. I saw EVERYONE who was ANYONE in the bar biz in this Town,
and the local Live Oak Brewery treated it's entire staff to it as their Christmas Party!

Plenty of swag in the way of Glenlivet baseball caps, Glenfiddich 2oz flasks, and
any number of clever little key chains and the like....With pretty girls pouring round after
round in little black dresses and big smiles.

I saw kymical there with a friend of hers, and juuuust missed getting to see
433 and his friends who are visiting Town this week for BNAT...

It all just swam by so quickly! And I wasn't even sampling the wares! Seriously!
(i really have to be in the mood for Scotch--and i simply wasn't i'm afraid, it just isn't
something to be knocked-back while working, you know? I mean, it's not
VODKA--right?? heh)

The whole restaurant was packed, people were happily milling about, I got to
cruise around the place with my little tray of smoked salmon chatting and posing for
pictures (my fuzzy leopard trimmed Santa Hat is always a hit ^_^) for four hours. No
rush, no hassles, a nice hourly wage--so no cash or tickets or tabs to deal with....

I just got to be a pleasant little hostess in my black&whites, telling stories and passing
out free food! HEAVEN!!!

Great Cause, Tasty Food, Fine Booze flowing freely--
the mood of the joint was delicious with Good Will.

I highly recommend taking part next year--I'm sure I'll be there, in one capacity...
or another. What a wonderful new Austin Holiday Tradition!

oh my god but that sounds wonderful!

As someone who has recently discovered that they quite like Scotch, I would have been in heaven!

(of course, seeing you in your santa hat would have just sent me over the edge)

You would have LOVED it.
I just adore the Austintacious mix of folks...

Bikers in their leather, Profs in their elbow patches,
Grandma in her Christmas sweater...

All laughing and eating and sipping on good drink
that's fun to talk about!

Could I be a Prof in leathers (or a biker in elbow patches)?

And hey, if you come across a cool flask, let me know. I'm thinking about getting myself one but have no idea what's good (also thinking about getting a nice bottle of sippin' whiskey, just for the house, but we'll see how that works out)
