Well, I wondered what the first casualty would be.

August 23rd, 2006 (02:28 pm)

We got home last night--I was in good spirits...

The morning shift had passed without much incident and I had gotten off early enough
to run some errands and go by the house and take Maggie outside for a bit, before
heading downtown to meet Benjamin.

We had a bevy at Lovejoys and then went out to a nice little dinner at a crappy little
Asian Buffet place that is one of my guilty pleasures.

Was looking forward to seeing the greenbelt and small pond and park Ben had found
just minutes from our house while walking Maggie... My first DOG WALK! The skate
park is right there too, he had said, what fun!

We walk in the door and bits of my Season 3 Box Set of SG-1 are all over the den.
As is one of Ben's clown shoes. Maggie feigns innocence.

Ben picks up the clown shoe and inspects it for damage, voicing his concern with:
you know these things are hard to come by!

I am staring at the bits of cardboard and opening each plastic case to look at the DVDs.
It is of course...My favourite Season, and the first one I ever got--from elitistbill
for Christmas several years ago.

The vein in my head is pounding, I keep waiting for....
What am I waiting for?
I keep waiting for it, and it keeps not happening...i choke down my anger.

My head is racing with a cluster of thoughts and emotions.
I cannot say anything, anything I say right now will be wrong.

Ben gets the leash for Maggie and looks at me, You still want to go with us?
giving me the *wincy grin*
I surprise him by slipping on my flip flops and saying with a sigh: Yes.

I feel like the eldest sibling, with a new baby in the house.
I have all of the feelings of jealousy and anger and frustration...
but the mind of a 36 year old woman who KNOWS in her head the animals
are not doing this to HER. They are nervous, they are in a new place, they are lonely
and scared and confused.

They don't know they make it difficult for her to breathe, her head ache, her sinuses
drain like a river down the back of her throat.

It isn't personal...Ginger.

I chant this like a mantra in my head as we walk down the tree lined pavement to the
opening of a gorgeous little greenbelt neither of us even knew was there a few days
ago. It reminds me of the beginning of Spirited Away...I say this aloud.

And then mutter that maybe Maggie will get turned into a pig and we will have to save
her.... Ben points out that it was HE AND I that just gorged ourselves like Americans at
the buffet and that perhaps MAGGIE will have to save us...

I smile half heartedly and trudge into the green through the big white blocks of stone.

We have a loverly walk. Visit the Skate Park and watch little skate punks plume about
and test their skills....cross the wide expanse of the field and the thin little stream, cross
the bridge and admire the pond...Maggie sniffing and exploring on the end of her leash.

Did she have to eat my FAVOURITE Season? I sputter suddenly out of the blue.

Maggie has very good taste. Ben explains.

More silence...but I am grinning a little now.

We three return home...the sun is down.
It is almost time for The Simpsons.

It has been a long day and we are all tired.

Everyone gathers in the den to watch the familiar cartoon clouds part...
Off to bed afterwards.
Even me.

I nearly doze off after an hour or so......but I hear Ben whisper, half asleep himself:

i love you, ginger.

And I am wide awake, smiling to myself. I try to let myself slip back asleep....but my
body simply isn't conditioned to rest before 4 AM. I slip out quietly and go join the rest
of our clan in the den. I'm wrapped up in Ben's Yukata, and plunk down on one of the
big leather chairs where Maggie is. She lays her head in my lap.

We watch some PBS shipwreck-recovery show until I am stuffed up enough to be truly
exhausted. I pet my weird four legged housemate and make my way back to the clear
air of the Master Bedroom.........where sleep finally finds even me.

The power of your writing has always been that you make something that could be mundane into something that is wonderful.

Sounds like you're settling in, slowly but surely. :-)

But you left out the most important detail... were the disks okay? Or do they need to be replaced?

Tuxedo Sam

Somehow, I knew you would comment on that...

He has a clown costume he is quite proud of.
Wants to be an "EVIL CLOWN" for halloween......
Beyond that, I really cannot tell you why he has the shoes.

I have (thinking this a bit weak in the way of a partner costume
and wow, who hasn't been an evil clown???) decided to be an EVIL
RING MASTER.

Fishnets, high boots...Red Tail coat, top hat....Whip.

(watashi no aishimasu...baka ru, ne?)

I've lost the language......sigh.
Pick it out if you can.

A whip though, that will be fun.

I have a small idea of a couple of the words. Complete context I'll have to get from our native Japanese on the show. I'll let you know when I get it.

It's been 20 years since I practiced the Nihongo...
Be gentle.

Gentle? I've barely started with the nihongo, so I have no room to criticize. We'll see if my weak contextual knowledge is anywhere near close.
