Some Days it just Seems Harder than Others...

August 7th, 2006 (04:18 pm)

Looks like it may be a wet ride to work.
Hope it will be a productive night never-the-less.

Communication is such a strange activity.

So much can be communicated in a single gesture...
and then at times hours of talking, drawing charts and building clay models
accomplishes nothing at all.

We are strange animals.

Each of us with our own language; hoots and howls, whistles and snorts...
that only make sense to ourselves.

That we ever come to any kind of understanding is the real miracle.

Speaking of charts and communication, have you found the sneaky back way to Opal's from Woodward? You can actually sneak through the back section of Penn Field to/from Woodward, and miss all the scary Congress traffic, and that light. I think it's Willow Springs Road. You've probably found it already, but it's much safer than the other way, so I wanted to make sure you knew about it, since you'll be travelling it so often.

*Ineluctable modality of the visible: at least that if no more, thought through my eyes. Signatures of all things I am here to read, seaspawn and seawrack, the nearing tide, that rusty boot. Snotgreen, bluesilver, rust: coloured signs. Limits of the diaphane. ... If you can put your five fingers through it it is a gate, if not a door. Shut your eyes and see. -Stephen Dedalus, Ulysses, James Joyce

There's always scrabble

Here's Douglas Coupland......."My 10-year-old nephew is going crazy because in my new novel I put a list of all 972 three-letter words legally allowable in Scrabble plus one invented word which isn’t allowed. He refuses to cheat and check online or elsewhere. Perhaps you, dear reader, might be interested in finding the word yourself. Herewith, 972 words plus one fake, and for what it’s worth, my spell check rejects most of them:
