Red Lipstick & Green Ink [userpic]

Henry and June.

July 12th, 2006 (11:21 pm)

I lent my copy out recently.......
My high-lighted copy.

I don't hand that to many people
really.....never have before.

It says too much.

If you want to see my guts,
read through my NIN, i underlined a lot,
in college.

Anais is my Patron Saint, of journals.

I've been at this, since I was eight.

That was Steven931 and i as well.

I met her, and Henry........
One night in Redlands California.
We rented a movie.

Steven931 and i rented HENRY & JUNE

after that I met the writers who would change my life.

D.H. Lawrence.
Thomas Mann.
Dostoevsky.

Anais nin, and Henry Miller.

The unknown who played Anais would later play the gal in PULP FICTION.

And so would "June"

I was accused of her hair.......
For the record, she wore a wig.

*laughs*

I don't.

SHE hangs over my bed.
That Anais.

I wonder where she will go, now.

When you aren't only yourself..........................

Where do you tuck away your Saints?

Wow. I've read absolutely none of those authors' works. I have read so few of what are touted and accepted as classics that I enjoy watching people's head spin. To some degree I avoid them because they are held up as classics, by the same system that said Lincoln freed the slaves because he was a cool guy.

Also because the indie snob still lives somewhere inside me. I think as I get older, it's more about not reading them just because someone said I should. After all, Confederacy of Dunces was supposedly a really funny book and a scathing satire. I found it laborious. Lolita is supposed to be earth and more shattering in its literary excellence. I found it an extremely well-written story of some middle aged sap's disquieting obsession with a girl. I was impressed that the syntax came from a non-native English speaker.

So does this make me defiant or ignorant? If it makes me ignorant, at least it's self-directed ignorance. Classics my ass. The word has long been cheapened since I came into this world, as has the word "hero."

Oh, you Clown.
Tankgirl

SUPERMAN RETURNS is still playing...loop.

And I just dragged myself up to check mail.

You aren't cool because you didn't read them.

I won't give you that...
They thought outside the frame, you are doing yourself
a diservice.

Oh hell, you can't see through lead either.

Maybe I should throw a gun at you.........or a copy of Alice in Wonderland.

Re: Oh, you Clown.

I may eventually get to some Nin. I already read Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. I did those voluntarily because I wanted to see what the real deal was, not the Disney business and that was back in junior high. I'm currently reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest because I haven't seen the movie yet and have been interested in seeing it.

I'll get to some of those authors like I'll get to some movies. I'll just not rush doing it. Plus, it's harder now since I tour. I really did like The Portrait of Dorian Gray and will eventually read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and The Jungle. I honestly think that it depends on who suggests a book to me. However, if anyone uses the word "classic," it's over. I suppose I am just all too sensitive and aware that the term "classic" is extremely and solely subjective. I don't know. I'll get to Nin some day. Lawrence I know nothing about.

Re: Oh, you Clown.

I threw a copy of Alice in Wonderland at my Father,
when he told me we were moving away for my Senior year of High School.

That was a joke.

(And Lawrence is SEXY!)

It's pedantic at this point, but it's a WONDERFUL quote:

"A classic is something everyone wants to have read, but no one wants to read." - Samuel Langhorne Clemens

Although I have read only Vol.1 of Nin's Diaries, I really loved it. Her erotica is also interesting. I have the same birthday as her, also!
