Another Poem gleaned...

June 25th, 2006 (11:29 pm)

from Marcia Muldoon's book, Delicate Tortures

BEACH BOYS

Your girls are all
waitresses at high class
restaurants near the
beach
perpetually tanned
college drop outs
who listen to
Dori Previn
smoke Virginia Slims
drink Dubonnet
in dixie cups
live for Neil Young's
next album
read poetry
by Rod McKuen
memorize his stuffed
animal lines
on double beds
thirsty for touch
cute girls
whose smallness
evaporates
their faces
at parties

trust me you say
combing seaweed
through your hair
a Neptune god
from the sea
a crab
because you were
born in July under
a summer sun
a crab
mean insensitive
pincher of ladies' breasts
in bars
marine animal
you must live near
water
to swim away noiselessly
to dive under
holding your breath

surfer
director of
the ocean
on a fiberglass board
you control
the waves
with your
feet
you aren't as wordy
as I am
your body is a
voice of
liquid glass

Dog

I held this thin volume with thick pages like a TOME when I was 18 years old.

No one knew it REALLY existed.
I looked and looked and looked and found the LAST copy in a tiny book shop.
She'd published it herself.

Some how, right now, I feel like pulling her words out, and sharing them.

Antid0te's

Honestly, I hope she GOOGLEs herself and finds me talking about her.
She gave me so much.
