Morning!

March 6th, 2006 (08:36 am)

Though it was overcast yesterday, the weather was otherwise PERFECT for our
78th annual Zilker Park Kite Festival. barry_barry and I wandered all over,
me in a beater and capri's, with my head cranked back and my mouth open...

*laughing*

I awoke this morning with a crick in my neck and the sting of a slight sunburn.
So worth it.

^_^

For once I was without my camera, and the first few minutes I continued to bemoan
this fact--until the wonder of it all took over and I realised every moment need not be
documented. No matter how beautiful. I relaxed and let myself just enjoy it.

I call that PROGRESS.

(but I couldn't help Googling an image from years past...baby steps!)

The sky was FULL of kites that ranged from 10 inches to 30 feet. Strings EVERYWHERE
but the whole time I was there I did not once see a collision.

skiddspoppe, we saw a tiny little squirt of a pup even smaller than Bess--
Bear pointed out that it needed an "I'm the Sheriff" hoody, too.
*grin*
Something MUCH larger drooled down the back of my leg and into my shoe...
but even I couldn't complain. Way too much good energy out there.

Afterwards we caught a matinee of ULTRA VIOLET.

*clears throat*

Umm...Wow.
Pretty.
Verrrrrrry pretty.

how do I put this....I really wish it were not a TALKY. Or perhaps that it were in an
Alien language? With ZIM-like Alien subtitles?
Maybe I should have waited for the DVD and played it in French...

I wanted more from the soundtrack too--and I am not that girl.
It begged for something entirely non-traditional, and that really wasn't there.

I liked it, but I was still high from the Kite Fest, and in very good company.

A+ for eye candy...but yeah--wait for it, and play it in a language you don't
speak. It would have been so much better left to my own imagination.

Early dinner afterwards at Buffet Palace Westgate, say what you will...
i love that place for what it IS.
(and it doesn't hurt that it is walking distance from the Theater)
DUDE.
They have make your-own-Pho.

^_^

Home afterwards, exhausted and FULL--a little Oscar, and a hard CRASH.

Excellent Weekend.
Ready for My Monday.

Spring has Sprung in Austin...

This is why I can't wait for my annual Manteo, NC trip. I do nothing but fly my kite for three days. :-)

I'm still impressed that the giant fish kites were in the air at all, given the little smattering of wind we had. It WAS fun though. Definitely wouldn't have killed us to have brought a blanket and a drink or three, and hung out for a bit. Just gotta watch out for the drool-monsters.

Re: Make your own Pho?

Please describe further...stinky purple stuff.

The broth--with all its coriander and spicy goodness is in a hot pot with a ladle,
bowls are preped with noodles, two kinds, one is Japanese style, the other Vietnamese...
other goodies like tofu and or pickled daikon, little dried beef shred, etc.

These bowl are covered in plastic wrap. You open them add cilantro and snipped green onion
and lime and umm...*runs to put the pot on to boil for noodles*
and stuff from all the little condiment pots, then ladle the broth into the bowl.
