The City of AUSTIN TX has been SHUT DOWN by a little Ice...

December 8th, 2005 (01:00 pm)

and freezing conditions that my MN Friends would wear a hoody in.

*GIGGLES*

Awesome.
Even UT has shut down for the day, and all the Public Schools.

*WOO-HOO!*

Snow Day, wish I had a job to stay home from...

Well, I have plenty to do today regardless, and it will be nice to have the oven on
all day, for once!

It's just a little strange to me that LJ seems to be sliding around on ice today too...
Must be a Meme!

*HAHAHAHAHAHAHA*

Right, back to cooking.

The traffic on Mopac is even funnier. Bridge! slow down to 30. Bridge on hill! slow down to 10, and tap the brakes often. *sigh* You people...

I went tear-assing to work, with not a sign of more than a damp bridge. Feh. Rumors of a real "snow day" have been wildly exaggerated.

That was rather my joke actually. From the standpoint of my little universe, it was perfect out. I'm fairly confident that it was evil out this morning on any of the bigger bridges.

We're supposed to get from 3 to 10 inches of snow between midnight and tomorrow afternoon. Main bummer for me is that fridays are when I normally hit the laundromat (no crowds!)

Got beer, rum, a caffeine beverage or two .... Maybe I should get some food, too.

And in case of total ridiculousness, my new landlady has an electric generator!

ok. i'm a yank. the kind that cut her driving teeth driving in lake effect conditions. but last night? 183? i was almost fucking killed by the slab of ice that was the road. the assholes who think that because it doesn't look like ice, it can't be ice, so let's drive fast, were smashed on the shoulders. it took me over two hours to get home. there is no salt in this town, and the highways are nothing but elevated bridges.

i am an angry bananie.
i had to do it all again this morning.

pout

I saw that as well, utter chaos on 183. It was surreal at one accident scene, 183 south of Duval, as I watched a fire engine moving sideways, and realized that it was SLIDING, not being driven that way! This was on the southbound side, and a woman was howling on the side of the road next to her car. On the northbound side, there was a Lexus and a SUV overturned...Cut to 183 over Great Hills Trail. Two cars ran into a three car pileup. I tried to help one of the drivers, and was sliding all over the road, in my hiking boots. My hair was frozen like Mr. Snowmiser!

in defense of my fellow Texans, we have a hard time recognizing ice on the roads. ice is supposed to be in a glass, and only appear during the summertime.

hope youre staying safe.
