Yesterday was long...

October 26th, 2005 (07:59 am)

But satisfying.

I got nearly everything on my list, Done!

I made "BIG COOKIES" for hairypolack yesterday afternoon...

My first experiment was not as pretty as I would have liked it.
I used the whole batch of chocolate chip'd dough on a single cookie.
I do not have a pizza pan without holes...
and my baking sheets were only almost "square" enough
to keep it entirely round.

(I was proud of the dough, a few nips and tucks on my part as far as the
recipe went, I can never just do it by the book...and everything was free-range
and organic--except perhaps the chunks of chocolate, CM has a good bulk
section for chocolate...and of course, good Mexican Vanilla from my private stash.)

I had to rig something large enough to use as a spatula
to get it off the pan in one piece. Heh.
A FEDEX envelope that zutroy sent me something in...
But it worked. I slid it onto an oval tray I had, and it looked more at home.

I made another batch of dough, and divided it in half.
This time I took out my heavy nine inch cake pans.
Cut the oven temp by 50 degrees and pressed it in
with no room to expand out...only up.

It would be thicker and softer, but perfectly round,
and would be easier to transport without incident.

hairypolock was chomping at the bit, a bit...
He was late to meet up with his Girlfriend. I wasn't making
this happen as fast as even I thought I would.
I mean, how hard would COOKIES be???

But I didn't want to throw the third one in the oven
until I had seen what happened with the second.
This was my first time trying to make "BIG COOKIES"
and I wanted to get it right.

The last one was still warm when he left with them,
and I rigged a box to sort-of let it cool enough to get
sealed up later. I kept explaining this part to him, but
I'm not sure he was listening.

(His Girlfriend is very Hot. *grins*)

I wanted to ice them, but they couldn't be written on
and sealed up--before the icing hardened.
And certainly not before they were cooled.
It would smear, smash, and goo!
But that would take even more time.

I sent him off with my reluctant cop-out...
an aerosol-ish can of icing with four tips.
He's a decent cartoonist, I trust his hand...
but he's not really worked in this particular medium, before.

(I SWEAR I wanted to make the icing myself....
and would have, but that was time I didn't have.)

I hope my three big babies were handled properly,
and are going to serve their intended purpose.

As Bribes! A large yummy calling card, for those he wishes
to gain favour and Stand-Up Gigs from.

I should have kept the damn things and iced them myself.
WRAPPED them myself...

He paid me too much for my time,
I didn't deliver a finished product.

But now I know how to do it.
I can do it properly next time.
I know what I need.

If he wants more, the next batch will be comped.
Um, save ingredients (ginger very poor, less poor ginger would do different)
I had fun figuring out how to make them.

Even my way, with premium ingredients, he got off better than
the price of the "MAUL"--and i KNOW mine were tastier.

Oh, Hell. It was just nice to have a purpose.
And maybe that's why he asked me to do this at all....
No, I'm pretty certain of that.

Thanks hairypolock.
I needed yesterday even more than I needed the grocery money
you provided me with. I'll eat for a week on my commission...
But I have renewed faith in my ability to get things done, again.
And that feeds something more important than my belly.

I was too tired to go out with Bill at 11PM last night, I'd gotten up too early.
He caught "The Recliners" without me--I crashed.

No worries.
They will play again next week...and the week after....

I am perpetually amazed by the many ways, the people who care about me...
Care about me.

Such clever Friends, I have.

You have no idea how much I value you.

Its a shame you don’t understand Yankee sarcasm and competitive boy put downs- we'd get along much better.

(Maybe I’m like a cookie cake

sweet- but theres just so much you can take at one time!)

I took analog film pictures of the cakes- Ill show them to you later.

I may commission some cooking come holiday time!

You should be a pro chef/ baker!

PS finish up your lonestar card app already!
its an extra hundred and fifty bucks a month.
That's a LOT of cookie dough!
