WHAT-TH-FUCK???

September 21st, 2005 (10:10 pm)
current song: Suffragette City

Rita...
She's coming straight at us.
3rd most powerful on record at this point.

This is unbelievable.

Hope you folks don't have ACL tickets...
If it goes on at all, it will be a mud bath.
65,000 muddy muddy people.
I really don't think it will happen.
ACL Fest, that is...

News is saying the damn thing will get within 40 miles East of Austin.

OF AUSTIN???

Unbelievable.

News shots of empty shelves in grocery stores.

There WILL be flooding.
Texas LOVES to flash-flood.

I'm going for a ride, to clear my head...
Maybe I'll see you out there hairypolack.

Austin is lucky in that, like Minneapolis, it would be very difficult to flood because first the river gorge would have to fill up.

Be careful, still!

Austin doesn't FLOOD flood, but there are neighborhoods
and certainly streets that get washed out regularly.

It's very common.

I'm really not that worried about 'River City'--
but the coast is going to get wiped off the map
if she doesn't die down.

FLOOD

Pre-LBJ it flooded. But I don't think post Mansfield and the hill country lakes. Still. Be careful. Winds I see are expected to gust up to 70 mph in Austin. Keep Toto inside!!

Hold onto something tightly, and stay dry and warm and preferably high ground (there's not much of that around there, is there?)

Good luck!

No worries.
We'll get rain and wind...

But this is the "Hill Country"
with the Colorado River running through it.

High ground, and a fairly substantial drain.

Texas is big.
It has lots of environments they didn't use in the Westerns.

*grin*

Austin will be fine.

It's the coast I'm worried about.
