Okay, WOW.

September 19th, 2005 (06:29 pm)

It is very hot out there, in the afternoon...
on the street, behind the cars
with the exhaust!!!

And why the HELL did I buy a BLACK helmet????

Left around 12:30 today, maybe more like 1 PM.
Filled my tank (for $2.99, heh) and bought more oil.

Took my Library books back,
and started rooting around my Classic Bastions
for work.
Popped into Old Pecan St Cafe to bother Bob.
He wasn't in, but I left word that I was available
for catering.

I am at that level of desperation.
The pride has been swallowed
like an old piece of gum at Church.

When all else fails, the Godfather of 6th street
always has a gig
for Ginger.
We're Olde School.

Drove around Claksville, my old neighborhood.
Even pulled up in front of 24 Flats, and pondered moving back.
As I do whenever I see the place...

No need, now.
I like where I live, and it doesn't HAVE to be exactly Central...
I have transportation now!!!

I can work where ever I want to.

Walked through FRESH PLUS,
the little specialty foods grocery store,
and was reminded of Steven931...
He used to be a manager there
when we lived next door, at 24 Flats.

Still, it was an almost pleasant sort of ghost.
A few more years and I will be able to smile easily,
when something
causes me to remember those days.

I left the West side of Austin, the Gentrified quarters
of the folks who used to work in the mansions on the hill...
And rode East.

I have never worked East of IH-35.
It was always too far away.
I love those neighborhoods....
I cruised around.

Kiddos were getting off from school, and crossing guards
were ushering them about with their big red STOP signs.
I found myself going up and down the old Live Oak lined streets
and looking at the homes and small businesses.

I would love to live here, someday.
Live in one of these well worn in houses
with a garden in back, and comfy chairs on the porch.
I need to learn to speak Spanish anyway.
It's mad-shameful that I live in Texas and don't already...
These neighborhoods have a sense of community
that simply doesn't exist elsewhere.

I found a park by the lake that I did not know existed.

My World just got SO much bigger.

*shakes head, overwhelmed*

I stopped in LOVEJOYS, on the way home.
I was about to black-out from heat stroke, and it was close enough
to 4 PM that I imagined I would not have trouble getting in and sitting
in the dark cool for awhile. I had Cassandra on my back, and was itching
to write a little of this down. They, like most of the bars and clubs in this Town,
have Wi-Fi.

I got a solid connection, but for some reason I couldn't GO anywhere...
Couldn't open my browser or connect to anything, despite the SOLID
signal and lights and bells that told me I was linked.

I counted it as a thing from The Sisters, I really am NOT supposed
to bring a computer into my oldest Church. It's just, you know, WRONG.
But the guy sitting next to me at the bar, with an impressive looking
Blinky Box of his own, heard me muttering.

He leaned over with a Lemme-help-ya-there-little-Lady tone...
Poor little thing can't make her 'puter work.

He froze, and uttered the word MAC with disdain, to cover his...

You know, I think I quietly looked down on that man.

I am an APPLE snob!!!!
Oh my god!!!!

That's it, disophy1, I have TRULY gone to the dark side.

*hangs head, still snickering*

I packed up Cassandra, and happily chatted with Marshal while I got some
fruit juice in me, to recover from the HELL LIKE CONDITIONS outside.

Cooled off and rehydrated, I hopped on Thelonious, and zoomed for Fountainhead!

And when I got home and checked my mailbox....

and SIN CITY on DVD!!!!!

I am a spoiled

Little girl.

(heh, sweet)

Thank-you Zut!

You will have to show me the new places you have discovered.

I feel so removed from Austin, I need a guide to show her to me anew...

Home. Soon.

I couldn't think of a good way to send it...a way that you could use it right away.

Then, as I was picking up The H2G2 I saw Sin City and it hit me.

You're no snob. He just wasn't that cute ;-)

As for the wi-fi connection...well you'll learn to toggle the switches to increase the reception from the sisters.

And a thousand thank yous to Daniel Tiger!!

Could you make me a little more homesick for Austin please?!?

yer killing me with these local travelogues. And just when the weather is turning cold and crappy up here.

I'll pout. I'll pout petulantly too! Then you'll be sorry.

*pets you*

I'd totally trade the weather...but not the Town.
I am a cold lover--who endures all HELL for her Austin!
