All of Austin is sneezing.
Sneezing wheezing and coughing from nasal drip...
But that hasn't stopped us from coming out into the sun and enjoying it all anyway.

I had a fantastic afternoon out on the deck at Opal's Penn Field serving brunch...
we had a Jazz trio play (who are now our regular Sunday gig, it would serve me well to
find out what they are called--they really are wonderful) and the folks were more than
happy to lounge about tugging on bloody marys and mimosas for hours.

Not really a 'dog person'--but there were some truly spectacular specimens out today...
(We allow dogs and other pets out on the deck, even provide water bowls.) It amazes
me that there aren't fights. I mean we get everything from a Great Dane I am certain I
could ride around the kitchen, to a collection of weenie dogs who show up dressed to
the nines. But for the two years I have been there I have yet to see anything more than
a warning bark.

I suppose folks know if they can trust their animals to behave...
I wish I could say the same for their children.

I have a fun job.
I need to remember that when it gets rough...
Days like today, under the sunshine with music and basking faces?

I love what I do.
I'm good at it and it makes me happy.
I couldn't trade it for an air conditioned cubicle, no matter how much easier it would be
on my tired sore little old body.

There is that point, every few minutes now...when I am running around
in my red plaid shorts and leopard print socks
bucking trays and taking orders?

i stop for a second and think: and I will go HOME
when this is over.
I will go HOME, sit in my little Tree House
and enjoy the silence.

I am doing that now.
Door open, fan blowing on me, trees rustling outside and the ocean sound of Ben White
in the distance... Some how this particular sound of traffic calms me. It is familiar.
It is the sound of MY PLACE.
I made it.

1 year and 9 months it took me to get back,
but I made it.

I love this Town.

The dogs vs. children comparison: AN OUTSTANDING POINT (and I'm a parent).

Betty Waits

I am certain your child has never run under my feet
when I'm bucking a tray with six heavy hot plates.

One becomes a GREAT politician in moments like those...
And juggler.

I never balk at asking first if families want high chairs.
They are all the way on the other side of the plantation...
Some of the younger servers try and avoid having to carry them
through the whole restaurant and out onto the deck?

(I clocked 7 miles on my pedometer on a Saturday in this place)

Means the little critters are trapped!

Bring them crayons, and sweep up the cheerio mess afterwards,
no worries.
BUT PLEASE....don't let them run around.

The reason you haven't seen any dog fights is that Bess hasn't dined at your restaurant...she can be mean, but only to dogs not people.

By the way...
I am having chamomile tea in the Eeyore mug you sent me.
Only mug I have come across yet, in my unpacking, and it is perfect.

Blustery days, yes.
Happily sipping tea on the evening of sunshine.

i love not being allergic to pollen.

also, dogs don't cause trouble outside of thier territory. they know it's (Ginger's) stomping grounds and keep it civil. they understand boundries.

children haven't gotten that far.
