No Place Like Home...

September 1st, 2007 (11:42 am)

You know, in the back of my head I have been wishing and wishing I could get away from Austin and spend some time with my Family this September. Let go of all my responsibilities and just RELAX???

yes, well--be careful what you wish for...

I have an opened ended "Get out of work Free" note from my Brain Surgeon, and my GM's Blessing...
And my Room-mates were just so glad I was still alive they shooed me off with no question of my third
of the bills.

I'm sitting here at the Family breakfast table, cup of coffee in hand, watching the dueling humming birds through the picture window out onto the garden. Mum and Craig are working the crossword, Pop just got back from his breakfast prayer meeting in Town...

Flowers everywhere...

The Opal's gang got together and took up some kind of MAD collection from my fellow servers while I was still in hospital, and sent Tiffany and one of the new gals to the store for "Supplies".

They showed up bed side Thursday night with an ENORMOUS arrangement of whimsically coloured roses...and several bags containing the following: A down soft 'Kermit the Frog Coloured' throw to keep me cozy in my cold little hospital bed, a battery operated Spiderman on a motorcycle, a copy of THE CAT IN THE HAT (for my CaT scan the following morning) a new paper journal for all my Hospital adventures, a new pack of gel pens, a Sponge Bob Squarepants activity book with a box of 98 Crayola Crayons, the Final issue of WEEKLY WORLD NEWS!, and a collection of bubble blowing devices...for bothering the nurses. A box of chocolates and a bag of chocolate chip cookies for any and all my bribary needs, Three large scented candles...
And a card signed by every last miscreant at Opal Divine's Penn Field!

Yeah, I cried.

Then the Biker Boys from Lovejoys arrived; Blair, Bear, Bill, and and Brett brought news from the Club Love Clan...The flowers that they and Marshall, Marcello, Drew, Ed, Tamara, Ben, Alix, Jeffery and Big Joe had ordered would arrive in the morning!

My Nurses were quick to turn a blind eye to the fact that visiting hours were long past, and there were nearly a dozen folks in my room... Most folks on my floor weren't conscious and I think they were just happy to hear a little laughter. Okay, a LOT of laughter...

And my Nurses--oi! Josh with his camo scrubs, tight t-shirt shaved head and pierced eye-brow???
Thomas with his big blue eyes and hoop through his full bottom lip???
Big broad shouldered Lino with his slick dome and huge gentle hands that could draw blood even from a Ginger without making her squirm???

Over and over I kept getting grins from staff, faces that were all too familiar...
People knew me already, Opals it seems is one of the FAVOURITE places to go after getting off shift.
I was a regular server for nearly everyone I encountered--right down to Maria *drum roll*
in Financial.

I was in a hospital bed for three days, with ZERO insurance, given a CaT scan, medicated, fed, and ever so respectfully and gently taken care of... Maria spent a little extra time looking into my qualifications for assitance. I just happened to have my paystubbs from the past month in my big red bag...

Folks, my bill for the entire experience?
$200. (1% of the actual bill)

*bursts into tears*

The original CaT scan up North at ARA on Wednesday alone, had been $400...
I had imagined being in debt to Brakenridge for the rest of my life!

It isn't over yet, and I know there is much to come, but I cannot be anything but floored and eternally grateful to everyone in my Life who has made one of the most frightening experiences in my existence--also one of the most amazing.

And yes, Friends.
A wake up call.

Tossed my smokes in the can as we left yesterday...
More changes to come.

It's good to be Home, with Mom and Pop and Craig and Loretta and Corin...
healing and growing.
9 days until my 37th Birthday.

Damn, I read this before the previous post and I had to go back and catch up. I think you know that I wish you the best and I'm SO happy that you came through this. It sounds like your hospital people are our kind of hospital people.

Take good care of your Ginger, Ginger. You're the only one you've got.

I thought about you several times,
the folks at Brackenridge seemed a lot like those
you've described at your own Hospital!

I am glad that you have such good people around to help you when you need it.

Lots of people sure do love you. That's an awfully nice thing to know when you've had an accident, isn't it?

Bill & I love you too. Even though Bill is a BAD FRIEND & never calls. I have upbraided him for this, just so you know.

Thank-you for visiting me me that morning,
you scared the shit out of me!

6AM and I'm on drugs with a swollen brain...
and I stir to consciousness to find you sitting there
waiting to harrass me.

You may be surprised to find a lot of wonderful folks haven't made it on the list of thanks yet...
I am not exactly on top of my game right now dear.

It isn't the town

You giet what you give. Even I was worried about you and I tend to just shut that kind of thing away.

I had no idea this was going on! Working with computers at work makes me stay away from my own blinky box.

Had to read the previous journal entry.

Ginger, I am so glad you are alive. You are too phenomenal of a person to leave the earth this soon.

I wish you well and I'll be thinking about you.

thank god for the kind souls taking care of you (and your budget). but it's only fitting... you always give what you get, and vice versa.

the biggest of big hugs for my big sister.
