Donna, Donna, Donnnnnnnnna!!!

April 16th, 2007 (04:53 pm)

Okay, weird Ginger stuff.

Donna Rocks.

I had an accident in November.
Or rather, an accident happened to me.

My scooter was plowed into on a sunny Friday afternoon at 4 PM.
I was minding my own business, waiting to make a left turn up Penn Field
to work. To wait tables. To carry beers.

I had my blinker on, I was in the proper position...
I was wildly in the right.

^_^

But a guy in a gold Ford Explorer, with a chrome skull and cross bones on his front tag...
(i will never forget watching in slow motion, that come at me and slam me down)
decided from the side street off Congress, that I had had time enough to be out of the
way.....So he didn't think I was there any more.

I was.
I was waiting for a VERY safe break in traffic. 50cc Scooter drivers...do that at rush hour.

I screamed and waved my hands, but did not hit my horn *BEEP BEEP*
He slammed into me, while looking over his shoulder for his own traffic.

To his credit, he was mortified.
Jumped out of his truck and tried to help me up.
He grabbed the handle that is THE GAS on my bike.
Threw me and Frances into oncoming traffic from the other side.
I rode up the side of a white Dodge MiniVan.
(she later got $800 dollars from my OWN insurance Company, for running me down)

That was November 3rd of last year.
It has taken me until now to get allllll the insurance sorted out.
I was finally paid to get my bike fixed, but I paid the bike off instead.
I didn't even own her yet.

One day, I will get her fixed.
But I will say THIS.
A Yamaha 2005 Vino saved my life, was hit by a truck and a mini van...
and still gets me to work every day--sans repairs.

And my hospital bills....which is where Donna comes in.
I got a bill for $204 almost immediately.
I referred them to the USAA insurance company.

I had gotten x-rays to see if I was hurt, and a doctor note for 8 days off.......
Thank HEAVENS i wasn't actually hurt, nothing broken lots of bruises.
But hard to carry a tray, when it hurts to wiggle?

USAA paid for the bike repairs, and even paid me for my missed days at work.
(USAA rules. And Mike Lively is one of their very best employees...he was a person
to me. Throughout.)

Mike told me the bills at Brackenridge Hospital were taken care of.
I told him about the $204 bill I had received, and he said--taken care of.
Told me that in fact it had been $800!
Really??? For an x-ray of my hand and arm???
Yup.
wow.

Well.
I walked out to get the mail today in my spidey PJs and slippers, on my Monday off...
And there it was again.

Tucked in with the phone bill.

STILL........and passed to a collection agency.
*head in hands*

I called the number, I got Donna.

MEDICREDIT CORPORATION
(Sounds SciFi Dreadful, yes?)

Saint Louis, Missouri.
(far from Texas.)

But I got Donna.

I was flustered, she was patient and funny.
I dug through the papers at my desk and could not find the numbers I needed.
codes, numbers, files, stuff..........
I mean I walked out to get my mail and DAMNIT! There it is again!!!?
She laughed, an honest laugh.
I apologised for calling without my ducks in a row, and she laughed again.
Said I could call back, she was manning the desk until 9 pm.

I found my numbers, I called back.
I got someone else, and asked for Donna....
They said she might not be in, I said I had just spoken with her
and she gave me her ext. 160?
I was immediately passed to her.

(Wow, like when you know the bartender!)

Donna has a great voice, and I am a sucker for personality.
THESE ARE BILL COLLECTORS GINGER!!!

She was nice to me. She was funny, and calm and real.
I believed her, I still believe her.

She spent the better part of Today......trying to contact my Mike Lively.
Called me back several times.

THESE ARE BILL COLLECTORS PEOPLE!

she didn't have to do that.

she didn't have to do MOST of what she did today.

Maybe she did it because I was nice.
Because I told her, no matter how it turned out, she had been delightful.
But really, she started it.

She is one of those rare creatures, in a job I cannot imagine coming to every day...
Who has remained HERSELF.
Donna.

Oh...I'll probably have to pay that $204.
Yup.
But I won't feel so bad.......I can imagine I am paying Donna.

She is still waiting to talk with Mike Lively, there is still a chance I can win this.
He won't be in until tomorrow.

Friends, she called me back four times.
She knows about my wreck, she knows I'm a waitress...she knows about me.

MEDICREDIT CORPORATION..........
has a bit of soul in it, Monster that it may be.

I am encouraged by this experience, to be a Donna.

(I watched The Persuaders on PBS last night.)

In an age when we can order pizza to our homes without talking to anyone........
A bill collector who takes time to know you, and search through your case?

We are not lost.
Not yet.

Your journal was blank to me,

Kat Love

In a world where customer service people hardly ever provide any type of service, it's nice to know that there's someone like that out there...even if it is a bill collector *yikes*.
