Had a less than pleasant Friday the 13th at Work...

April 14th, 2007 (03:08 pm)

A long lunch, busy but unfruitful.
Folks were simply in DREADFUL moods...

I've never had percentages that low before.
I tend to take it personal.
Okay, I always take it personal.
*sigh*

Couldn't wait to get out of there and head Down Town to Casino El Camino
Where I knew the new BIG FLAT SCREEN TVs promised to have been installed.

Hurray!!!

Casino was beaming with pride, they are quite fabulous.
The two screens were christened with a viewing of Dawn of the Dead (2004)...

I spent a lot of time examining the tiled counter top of the bar...heh.
With Casino leaning in to exclaim gleefully: You can just FEEL the GOO, can't ya!!?

*shudder*

I'm not one for horror movies--and Zombies push my buttons more than most.

I was relieved when Matt (Bumpy) slipped Starship Troopers on next. Bugs, I can handle.

I nursed two Shandies over the span of near 4 hours, and munched on a big basket
of Zach's hand cut cheese fries...(This puzzled both my bartender and fellow regulars.)

Then headed for home.
Stopping by Vulcan Video for a few films more my speed.
(Psychopathia Sexualis, Blood Tea and Red String, and the Vegas episode of
Anthony Bourdain's: No Reservations)

A storm rolled in, and rather than enjoy myself, I spent most of the night
trying no to see Zombie faces in the window every time lightening flashed.

*head in hands*

Over active imagination...not always a plus.
Wished very much I had someone to snuggle with.

I guess I'll head out soon, return my movies for my 'Extra Credit' for next day return...
And go in to work again. Hoping for the best tonight. But feeling rather unrested and
defeated.

Probably just my Girl Chemicals kicking in, I am sure I will be able to shake it
once I get around all the Saturday Night energy at work.

Zombies are really overdone. And they're just so messy. Mummies, on the other hand, always immaculately spiced and bandaged. Alright, there are plenty of ragged, dusty ones, but we still can beat the pants off any zombie any day.

I certainly rather snuggle a SpaceMummy than a Zombie!

If Reavers count...then HELL YEAH, that would be one Zombie movie
I could sink my teeth into!

(the icon is a pic of me, First in Line at The Alamo South, for Serenity Opening Day!)

I spend altogether too much of my time thinking about zombies. I've found the best strategy for putting off my fear is inventing complicated survival strategies for the event of a zombie plague, etc.

Also...I worship Tony Bourdain...

A SuperVampire

It was, alas, the realisation that the house I live in is nearly impossible to
make Zombie-Proof...that had me in fits with my night light on
and my covers up to my chin!

And yes, Bourdain is looooong one of my Heroes. ^_^

It was, alas, the realisation that the house I live in is nearly impossible to make Zombie-Proof...

...I should have known *grin*

And for what it's worth...I'm always here, in case you ever again find yourself in need of potential zombie fortification plans. I'm sure I could come up with something, even for your apparently indefensible residence.

Incidentally...I'm sorry your Friday was bad. I'm sure once the collective bad juju of the day has passed, things will balance out again.

1) I don't think Reavers count as zombies. They aren't undead. They're just psychologically and socially twisted. Are they ever!

2) What's a real shandy taste like? I've only had bottled ones overseas.

3) Always going for extra credit, eh? Nerd! I never heard of those movies. Time for more education!

What are your feelings about 28 Days Later since they're not exactly zombies, either? Perhaps Mel Brooks' son could help you with your zombie fear. He's written two books about zombie attack and survival. You already have the spunk, I think all you need is information! I bet you could swing a mean bat or could be hell with a shotgun, pumping it with one hand and such. I don't get the picture of you being a pushover victim in the zombie movie . . . .

I still think Reavers could fall into the Zombie genre...
It was started with a gas, and they are near mindless flesh eaters?
I dunno.
Hard to find a definitive, er, deffinition!

A "real shandy" is also one of those things folks argue about...
Though most agree is a lager of some sort with lemon/lime soda.
(Mine was a Lonestar and 7-up)

A girl drink in the UK, and a children's drink in Germany!
^_^

Oh, and I hadn't heard of those films either, I just pulled 'em off the shelf
at Vulcan because they looked interesting.

Casino actually HAS the two books you are talking about!!!
*laughing*
Maybe I should borrow them...

Oh, and I can't shoot for shit. The two times I have fired a gun?
I closed my eyes when it went off.
>_<

Yup, Zombie Food.
That's ME!

First in line for Serenity. another way in which you rock.

I still think that the flesh eating would make Reavers psychopathic and sociopathic cannibals, but still not zombies. I think we have discovered ourselves a classic-style comic book-store argument. You know: the kind that customers walk in on.

If we accept the 2004 Dawn of the Dead,
and 28 days?

DUDE.

Zombies.

They, and I can almost quote, "lost their humanity"

I cannot wait for the day, we sit in the warm air, under perhaps an umbrella...
on a sunny afternoon.......in Austin--and I can poke you in the ribs and exclaim:
DUDE, Reavers are totally Zombies!!!

Until then..............*smiles*

green pick

Good point. I know those two are commonly referenced as zombie movies, even by myself. It seems that nowadays, zombies are not specifically undead, but also can include diseased. Why not? Ultraviolet and other shows/movies have worked vampirism under the premise that it is a unique disease that is passed on. Based on that allowance and flexibility, then Reavers can be considered very highly functioning zombies.

I've had my Portland, OR trip finalized for only a week! Otherwise, I could have changed my plans and slipped down there instead in a week and a half: Austin Drafthouse, cheese fries at that one place you mentioned a couple of days ago, drinking a girly shandy to balance out my rampant manliness . . . .

80 degree weather . . . ? And Jeremy told me about the Austin Motel. I'd have probably tried to get a place there. Oh well. I have ideas for next time!
