I Save Things.

October 21st, 2006 (10:53 pm)

Not big things, just............Things.

A Million Years Ago, because I cannot remember the date,
and maybe I didn't even write it down....

I had just moved to Austin.
So I suppose it was the Fall of 1992.

*leaves rustle, wind chime sounds in the night breeze, Maggie licks me*

But I had a place of my own......so it must have been
the Fall of 1994.

I met a boy on the street, 6th Street, who was about my age.
He engaged me, I was wildly engage-able back then.

He wanted to talk,
I wanted to talk.

I took him home with me, in a cab.
Palma Plaza and West Lynn.
Back to 24-Flats.

We sat and talked, he did not drink.........so I didn't either.

He was a Traveler.
Those Folk, who just...............................Go.

I listened.

I wanted to touch him, that was all I knew of, to return his gesture.
We didn't touch.

Small pack on his back, all he owned.

He gave me a little book.
TINY.

Ginger, you need this, I want you to have it.

Someone with nothing.
He gave me something.

Smallest Journal I have ever owned.

Not three inches high.

Black cover, gold like a Bible at the edges of each page.

Every Page Blank, had been blank.........save the first one.

He wrote:

"All that Really
Matters is
The Quality of your
Existance,
Not someone Elses
Experience of it.
" (SIC)

What a thing to say,
to someone who writes everything down.

Is still my tiniest journal.
Every page, still blank.
Save One.

I have never found words...... worthy enough.

I wonder where he is tonight.
Out There.
My age.

Is he still a TRAVELER?

His book has been neighbor to my first diary......1978.
And a small black velvet book I drew my tattoos in, in 1991...
Though I never got a tattoo.

*laughs*

Just ONE page.

I need it now.
He knew.

i save things.
