I'm Going Home...

February 25th, 2008 (11:17 am)

On whim this morning I called, where I have been calling for several months hoping and hoping. This time Joanne said the magic words:
We DO have a studio on the 3rd floor!

*BOUNCE BOUNCE BOUNCE*

Home to Fountainhead.

Home to my Tree House...

I move in on, get this, April Fool's Day.

*BEAMS*

I lived there for 7 years before moving out with that boy...
It isn't fancy, but I love the area--and all the people there.

It's off South Lamar, 78704, on Victory Drive.
Near Westgate Central Market and like two miles from Work!

(I stuck an exterior shot and an interior shot of my old place in the post)

Wonderful! I'm glad you get to return to a place where you felt happy and secure.

Guess what? Tonight Ellie and I had dinner at a tiny (maybe 8 tables and a bar area that seats 4) restaurant in a stripmall off highway 331 in Freeport. A couple miles away from The Cottage which is truly out here in a development in the middle of nowhere. Delta Kitchen owned by a guy named Forrest who lived in Destin most of his life. (From 1989 and I'm guessing he's close to your age now. He's also the "chef".)

They do beer and wine (we had a nice Aussie Shiraz) and simple meat and three food. Seafood poboys and fried chicken and country fried steak and pork chops and country vegetables. That sort of thing. Good food for $8-$10 a plate. He's got to please a small country town type clientele if he wants to stay in business.

And yes, E and I had to go into the miniscule kitchen and meet Forrest and give him a hug after dinner. We liked him. I don't think I've ever mentioned that Elle owned and ran a small deli restaurant in Kentucky for 17 years, We (E and I) had a big conversation about things we could do to help him make the little place pop and stay alive. So many close there doors after a couple of years here in the FL panhandle.

But I digress.

Dennis, the oh so adorable 30 ish boy who waited on us (he reminded me of Vince on Entourage http://www.hbo.com/entourage/cast/character/vince.html only his eyes were bigger and browner) moved here from Austin a few months ago! There must be a story about how -that- happened. How did he even find us. He's was obviously experienced at the job so maybe he was in the biz there. Has a great singing voice (he cut loose while an unplugged version of a White Snake song was playing) and let us know the restaurant is expanding to add a stage and live music so maybe he performs.

Geez what a hunk in his cap and jeans and worn t-shirt. Ellie (she's such a hussy) and I flirted shamelessly. But! He's from Austin! Working in Freeport, FL. The world is small. I somehow felt connected to you.

They're looking for help if you get restless and want to move. ; )

What a fantastic story!!!

I am sure you two made Dennis' night. ^_^
Austin does have a way of sending her seeds out into the 'Verse like that,
and then calling them home. If anything, the book I've been wanting to write for 15 years is about exactly this phenomenon--a cycle that repeats and repeats...each one involved thinking they are the first. Off on the great adventure!

I love it when someone tells me the AMAZING story about how they got to Austin...and it is the one shared by half her denizens. *laughs a little*

Wow. yeah, that makes me feel connected to you too. Thanks for telling me about the evening, and the place. You are so awesome.

What I wouldn't give for just a handful of boiled peanuts...
*sigh*
They just don't do that sort of thing this far West.
