Latest Scooter Drama...

August 31st, 2007 (09:22 pm)

Sunday early evening I was heading home on Oltorf, sun still up.
I took a sharp right turn onto Burleson and awoke on a gurny
surrounded by beefy EMS guys.

@_@

Francis had slid out from under me, and my head landed first
on the curb
at 40 MPH.

Thank-you helmet. Thank-you beefy EMS guys!

But they let me go home, and me and Francis made it the few blocks left
to the house, I made little of it as she was nearly unscathed and I just had
a nasty bump on my head and a bruise raising on my right upper thigh.

I awoke at 9 AM the next morning to waves of nausia and vomiting.
I could not balance to stand, and crawled into the bathroom trembling
to purge and purge and purge.

Despite my room mates begging me to go to the doctor, I had a glass of water
and crawled back into bed. I called Daniel later and he came and picked me
up to take me up North, I called in to work and got my next shift covered.

I described my symptoms...and Daniel was added to the chorus of Friends begging me
to go to a Doctor...

But we allllll know how Ginger feels about The White Coats--I must be bleeding from the eyes.

So on Wednesday when Daniel had had quite enough of me squirming and whimpering and icing my head
and staggering dizzy and nausiated around his apartment--he dragged my combatant ass to Victory Family
Clinic where my old Doctor Ralph Hadley checked me out and wincingly told me to get my stupid ass to the
following specialist for my CT scan.

*sigh*

After my results came back at ARA up North, they had Daniel load me back into the Mini and race me to
Brackenridge down town where I was checked in and gurneyed up to my room on the 9th floor with the rest
of the BRAIN injuries.

*head in hands*

The twisiting ice-pick in my right temple for the last three days along with my dizziness
lack of motor skills and grey spot in my right eye
were explained to me as the swelling of my brain,
and the rather substantial pool of blood gathering on the shelf of my skull under the base of
my grey matter.

Most were shocked I was speaking and walking.

I have spent the last three days in room 904 high atop Brackenridge, IV drip and a laundry list of meds
working on breaking down my clot in the hopes that my body would reabsorb it. My second CaT scan today
revealed that not only had the barrage not worked as planned, it had not even loosened it enough for what
had been planned worst case scenario. Drilling a hole in my head and flushing the clot out.

So I am home now with my Family in Waxahachie TX,
with more meds, waiting a week before returning to Brackenrige on the 6th for another CaT scan,
and a brand new hole drilled in the back of my skull. If my blood jello has thinned enough.

That's the bad news...
Once I've rested a bit--I'll come back with the fun stuff!
I had many fabulous visitors, and a staff of Nurses and Doctors and Aides who walked out of an episode
of SCRUBS! Seriously!!!

OH THE ADVENTURE

silly girl...

But at least you're home.

And I don't know whether or not your doctors have advised against this, but I strongly recommend NOT listening to Bohemian Rhapsody...

Don't Look

My frogs love blood worms...I don't think they're into dessert though, so we might want to get rid of the Jello...even though the mold is cute.

Sounds awesome, but I may just have a glass of juice.

I tossed my smokes in the trash when I checked out
with my Folks...and am pondering some rather profound
changes in my lifestyle.

Somehow feeling just a bit too lucky to be alive these days to be swallowing poison.

You are a dumbass.
Doctors may be expensive but it's better than dying.
Nothing better happen to you or I'll have to get all Orpheus on your ass.

Before I even got to the punchline I was reading along and thinking, "Fuck going to the doctor -- you need to going to the Emergency Room!!" I'm shocked, actually, that the EMS folks let you go home...should have taken you to the hospital right then and there.

Well thank the gods things didn't turn out differently -- you're fortunate, you know. Take care of yourself and do what the White Coats say. :)

Bubble of Serenity

truly, the more I learned about the extent of the injuries the more and more amazed I became that those guys just let me LEAVE the scene.

I guess I just seemed so coherent,
laughing and flirting--and just blocks from the house?

Yeah, I should have been strapped down and taken in.

Trepanation...yes,
a word bandied about MUCH by my Friends
these last few days!

Scooby

To paraphrase Bones in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home:

Great God, man! That's barbaric!

Well, there were some cultures that believed that trepanation brought about a greater state of bliss and a deeper communion with the divine forces of the universe. Take care and be well!

Was there a version of JD at your hospital?

Scooter JD!

Oh my YES.

I just finished a post mentioning a few of them...
but there are MANY tales left to tell I assure!

Is it YOU. My fucking god, who else could it have been.....

For days I have known something was wrong, but could not figure out what was going on. I have been freaking out my family.

I am glad you are walking and somewhat functioning. I am here if you need anything.

Love you much.

Re: The damn spirit.

I walked into the kitchen and said comic book girl is hurt. (that is how he remembers you, because he was there when I gave you the big book for Christmas) His immediate response was what time are you leaving for Austin.

Now that I have cried because you are hurt....

What do you need?

Email me contact info. kathymcelroy@comcast.net

Love you....

Oh, Ginger. I am glad you still have some motor skills to speak of and could type this entry.

I was really worried when I read Kordelski mention your accident, and I think actually I am more worried.

What the world needs now is more Ginger, not less.

i do hope you get better soon! this is just horrible. your spirits seem high, though.

i'm really proud that you are talking about "change". sometimes it takes a bigger change to make a littler change. an accident is a bad form of that bigger change, but it's good that you can see this as some sort of intervention as well. smart girl. i guess, sometimes things tap lightly at your door and other times when you go to open the door you get knocked over by half a dozen bowling balls.

hang in there. that change sounds marvelous. you deserve a better life after being given a second chance.

Posted by: Red Lipstick & Green Ink (ginger931)
Posted at: September 1st, 2007 07:10 pm (UTC)

Yeah, this has the profound sense of being
an intervention...

Thanks for the kind words.

I'm very, very glad you went to the doctor. I have the same fear/dislike of doctors -- "White-Coat Syndrome," one of my specialists calls it -- and I know how tough it is to make that decision. I'm happy you made yours, and at the right time. I like your brain and I'd like to see it continue for a good long time.

Rest up. Get well. Your friends love you, and with good reason.

My right eyeball has a sort of thrumb in the nerve that holds it in--reminds me of an over used paddle ball rubberband.

>_<

And my skull two sizes too small for my brain at the moment...

Walking is slow and wobbly--and I think I may be getting voices from the Borg collective in my right ear.

(have had CRAZY Borg nightmares ever since the accident)

But mostly just delighted to be alive.
